Therefore, keep reading & let’s dive in.

First of all, what is a blog niche and why is it important?

What Is A Blog Niche?

In human terms, a blog niche is a specific category/topic that you choose to write on for your blog at least for months if not years.

For example, my blog (Learn-Unique)  comes under the digital marketing category as I teach stuff similar to it. Therefore, I will not write about anything else here.

Similarly, choosing a specific niche is a crucial part, and believe me, many people make a huge mistake in this first step itself.

Therefore, I am here to save you from such stupid yet blog-costing mistakes. This leads us to our next step about the importance of choosing a specific niche.

Step 2:

Importance Of Choosing A Specific Niche

Choosing a specific niche can either make or break your site’s credibility.

It will only break if you have chosen a niche that’s irrelevant to your interest.

But it can surely make your future bright if you are walking on the right path.

I will help you stay on the right path until the end.

Importance of choosing a specific niche 1

Almost every beginner blogger has this doubt in his mind, “Is it necessary to focus on a single niche if I have knowledge & interest in multiple niches”?

Well, there is no compulsion in writing. No one will take action against you if you choose to write on multiple topics.

In fact, I have seen few people acquiring success in writing variedly. But let me be clear. It can be an exception.

For example, if your site has gained some highly intended users who love reading your blog over a few years, then you can pitch in for new topics by creating a separate category.

Most site diversifies their niche only after either:

But when starting as a new blogger, it is advisable to stick with a single niche. Working on a single niche will help you in the following aspects:

And lots more.

Fun fact: When I first started, I went for the evergreen buzzing topic i.e. ‘Tech’ believing that I would be able to easily sell iPhones by ranking my articles on the first page.

But the same was not the case as I wrote about anything. I ended up wasting my money on that domain.

You must have understood the power of working on a single niche. Now is the time to take real action by brainstorming & validating your niche.

In short, in the next step, you will be able to clarify your niche.

Step 3:

Brainstorming & Validating Your Niche

Brainstorming is researching & getting an idea about how your chosen niche looks practically.

On the other hand, validating helps in locking the niche.

In simple terms, you will be able to find out if the niche you have chosen is capable of making you money or not.

Brainstorming & validating your niche 1

Now, you need to find your niche.

Will it come to you while eating or bathing?

Never.

To find out your perfect niche, you need to research a few things to clarify.

For example, I found my interest to write by ‘reading books’. Similarly, there are many other sources to brainstorm your niche.

Some of the proven ways are:

These are some of the simple yet effective ways to come up with a niche that works.

But if you are still confused with finding one, don’t jump to the next step till you find one. Take your time. Research & read as much as you can before choosing one.

Fun fact: I invested over 6 months in just making a blog plan where I decided my niche carefully doing nothing else.

If you are unable to find a suitable niche even after brainstorming, don’t worry. At the end of the article, I have provided over 100 blog niche ideas.

Now let’s leap to the validation part.

Now, I may assume that you have hopefully generated a few ideas about which you are passionate the most.

To make sure that your niche is a relevant one, you need to perform the following tasks:

In short, they should have the money-making possibility except you are blogging just for a hobby.

By keeping in mind the above criteria, you will be able to validate your niche & come up with a stronger one.

Yet to fulfill these criteria, you need to research certain stuff & question yourself.

This leads us to our next step.

Step 4:

Questioning Your Niche

A person who questions logically from time to time is considered to the wisest even if he/she is not the smartest of all.

Similarly, you need to ask some questions to your inner soul to eliminate the unwanted doubts that keep hovering in almost every blogger’s mind.

After understanding the answers to the questions, you will be able to make a better decision on choosing a niche

Questioning Your Niche 1

I will help you ask 3 best questions & solve them here itself.

Question 1: Will I be interested in my niche one year & writing at least 45 posts from now?

It is no rare to be depressed while continuously writing for a long time on a single topic. It is common. That’s why it is necessary to make sure that the topic you write about makes you happy for the long term.

For example:

One of my friends decided to go with the health niche by promoting affiliate products with ‘Pinterest Affiliate Marketing’ & ‘Twitter Affiliate Marketing’.

But due to his lack of interest & knowledge in health, he had no option but to sell the site at whatever price he gets.

Therefore, it is necessary to CONFIRM that the niche you are writing about will not let your blog sleep after a while.

Question 2: Are other people interested in my niche like me?

This is a big one.

I have seen many people writing blog posts on a certain topic and then complaining about not receiving any organic traffic.

Why does this happen?

The main reason is no one wants to read/ no one is interested/ no one is searching for.

How do I fix that?

It’s not as hard as you think. The only thing you need to do is KEYWORD RESEARCH.

Let’s do it.

Firstly, head over to Google Trends.

Google Trends to find a niche

Then type in your main keyword.

For example: if I go with a health niche, then I can put in ‘Keto Diet’.

Google Trends Search Results

You will see the trends for a particular keyword. You can change a few things like ‘country location’, ‘period’, etc. You can even search for worldwide.

It’s not over.

You can also compare two keywords to check what’s performing better than the other.

Now, you must have got the idea of checking the trends of any specific niche. It will help you in finding out the people’s interest per month & years.

Now, when you type in any keyword in google trends, you will also get few similar keywords for that term at the bottom of the page.

Related queries in Google Trends

They are helpful too.

Till now, you must have understood the basic concept of choosing a specific niche & why it is important to do so.

Now, let’s continue the research process.

With Google Trends, you know about the trends of a specific keyword for a specific country at a specific point in time.

But what you do not know is: “How many people are exactly searching for that term”?

To know that, you need to do some basic keyword research. It can be done both for FREE & for PAID.

I will show you how to do it through Ahrefs. You can use other free tools like Ubersuggest or KWFinder for the same.

After opening Keyword Explorer in Ahrefs, search for the main term that you previously searched on google trends.

I will go with the same ‘Keto Diet’.

Keyword Explorer in Ahrefs

You will get all the details about the keyword like:

And much more.

This will assist you in not only approving/securing the niche but also give you are a fair idea about the scope of the niche.

For example:

Keto Diet has current global monthly searches of over 2 million which means that this category has a high scope of visitors even in the future. On the other hand, the keyword difficulty of 89/100 suggests that somehow the competition is also high.

In this way, keyword research tools help you in making your niche research easy.

Keyword research tools like Ahrefs & Semrush are somehow costly for beginners. Therefore, you can initially start with free tools like Ubersuggest & google keyword planner.

KW Finder is another great tool that allows users to perform keyword research for free.

It’s as simple as that.

You just need to look at a few numbers. Always keep in mind that your main niche keyword should have at least a few thousand monthly searches before you enter that niche.

Now, let’s move on to the most awaited question…

Question 3: Are there any money-making possibilities from the niche that I have selected?

Here’s the thing. Almost every blogger blogs for two main things:

Therefore, it is necessary to find a lucrative niche where we can sell stuff.

It can be affiliate products, own products (physical products), courses, ebooks, etc. You can also put on direct ads on your site. But I usually do not prefer ads.

But how to find a niche where we can sell?

It’s very simple & easy.

1. Think by yourself:

If you visit any news site, will you go to read the trending news or buy the products?

It’s obvious. No one will ever buy from any new site. Therefore, most news sites monetize their content through advertisements.

Similarly, you have to find out whether your niche has any unique selling proposition.

But here’s the deal:

Some niches will always make more money than the other. But never get attracted after the amount of money until you are interested in the topic.

2. Analyse your key competitors:

This is one of my favorite tasks. In this method, you need to look at other websites with similar niches to yours. Some of them will hint you at the homepage itself.

Like this one:

Finding your niche from your competitors

Some of them will put on a ‘shop’ section, promote affiliate products & even the advertisements (Google Adsense, Media.net, etc).

Your competitors will help you find out what you should sell/promote.

It’s the easiest & most convenient method to date.

3. Check for affiliate networks/programs in your niche:

Checking affiliate products/networks similar to your niche will help you find out all the possible options (products) to promote & sell.

For example:

You can type in ‘keyword+affiliate programs’ in google and it will show you all affiliate programs related to it.

The best thing about all these methods is they are easy, fast & free.

There is another secret method to find blog monetization opportunities for your niche.

Let me reveal it to you.

4. Mastermind Quora:

If you do not know about quora, you are living under a rock.

Just kidding… Quora is one of the biggest question & answer forums. It helps people to solve their queries.

It’s very easy to use. Just sign up and log in to Quora.

Search for your target keyword on the search box in Quora:

Finding perfect niche through Quora

You will get a lot of questions.

Line by line, scan them all. If you feel that a specific question can be solved with the help of any tool, software, or product, then you can sell & earn from your niche.
